Drawing inspiration from mighty Estonian fore-fathers, the TreeDwellers Forest Megaphone is a UK first, offering guests exclusive access - an ear on the secrets of the woodland. It goes beyond just listening, it’s about experiencing the transformative power of natural soundscapes.

Now - as we share the Forest Megaphone Creation Story - you’ll meet the master craftsman behind the design and learn the fascinating details of why this is such an epic addition to TreeDwellers, Cornbury.
The Genesis of the Forest Megaphone
The original concept of the Forest Megaphone seeded from an impressive project engineered by Estonian students with a desire to amplify nature's silent whispers. TreeDwellers embraced this vision, evolving the design and adding aspects to elevate appreciation of the surroundings.
It was crucial that the Forest Megaphone honoured these roots and so we enlisted the expertise of Dan Hollands of Bear Woodcraft and Ben Duckworth of Raven Roundwood Timber Frames, whose hands have crafted more than structures—they've sculpted experiences.
Building with Care
The Forest Megaphone amplifies our pledge to grow a sustainable environment, directly contributing to the eco-conscious foundation of TreeDwellers Cornbury.
The Forest Megaphone’s design and build was led by principles of sustainable architecture. By partnering with Dan and Ben, we can trust that the structure was built using responsibly sourced local timber, thereby reducing the environmental cost of materials transport. Moreover, the traditional construction technique was planned to maintain structural integrity yet minimise waste.
Every sleek cut, every neat join, and every last finish was considered with eco-conscious principles in mind. The result is a structure that resonates not only with the sounds of nature but also with TreeDwellers’ commitment to safeguarding our natural landscapes for generations to come.
Harmonising Nature and Acoustics
Set amongst the ancient woodlands of Cornbury Park Estate, the megaphone not only serves its purpose as an acoustic amplifier but also as a place for relaxation, meditation, capturing unforgettable memories and - from time to time - enjoying creative performances.

Dan and Ben's work embodies the seamless fusion of function and form needed to bring the megaphone's purpose to life. Crafted by hands and heart alike, every detail of the megaphone's creation chimes with the holistic values of TreeDwellers. From sustainable sourcing of materials to the craftsmanship applied, each step has been taken with deep respect for the environment.
Dan and Ben have been instrumental in realising this vision, ensuring every detail echoes our commitment to sustainability and acknowledges the important role of these natural soundscapes in human evolution and well-being.
In crafting the Forest Megaphone, we've realised it’s more than a structure—it's an instrument, a resonator of our natural world's soundtrack. We recognise how deep the roots of nature's influence run into our evolutionary story and understand how the megaphone serves as a conduit that reconnects us to our primal selves.

A Conductor of Tranquillity: TreeDwellers' Vision
At the helm of TreeDwellers is Tim Rees whose roots are deeply entwined with alternative accommodation, having previously owned the second largest glamping agency in the UK. His expertise and insight into what makes a getaway not just a stay, but a journey, is the driving force behind the megaphone's inception.
"Sound Meditation has always yielded powerful results for me on my personal journey. At TreeDwellers we sincerely want to go beyond simply offering a bed in the trees.
While this is pretty cool in itself, being able to create a UK first sound meditation device in the woods, that is also a sculpture, really aligned with our vision."
He envisions the Forest Megaphone - and indeed other elements of a TreeDwellers stay - as an apparatus to pull us back from the stressful environments that take up so much of our daily lives and to help us reconnect with the nourishing qualities of our natural soundscapes.

A Natural Amphitheatre: The Magical Setting
Hundreds of years ago, Cornbury Park Estate was once home to the royal hunting ground - but has since served as an exclusive sanctuary to the array of species who were once game. Book for summer 2024 and we’ll send you a checklist of animal calls to listen out for during your stay.
We’ve built our Forest Megaphone in our glade - the epicentre of TreeDwellers’ activity - a stunning fern-trimmed clearing where guests can soak in the scenery throughout the year. It’s also the space we use for gatherings as part of exclusive hires and weddings.

As you saw in the Creation Story, the glade is home to a number of Dan’s wood-crafted creations. Our Pagoda - a handcrafted platform to elevate a wedding ceremony or yoga practice - and a giant feasting table for group dining stand boldly amongst the ferns. You’ll find out how you can tailor this space for your wedding here.
